ZOLTEK Carbon Fiber in Pressure Vessels and Tanks

ZOLTEK carbon fiber has been a key player in advancing the technology of pressure vessels and tanks. Its lightweight nature, combined with its durability and corrosion resistance, has driven innovation in this field for decades.

Filament Winding

Filament winding is a process where resin-impregnated fiber or tape is wound onto a mandrel in a precise pattern. This involves rotating the mandrel while a delivery head accurately places fibers on its surface. By winding continuous carbon fiber strands in specific patterns, ZOLTEK creates structures that are stronger than steel but much lighter. Common applications include Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) and Hydrogen Tanks.

Engineering Technology Corporation: Leaders in Filament Winding

With over 50 years of experience, Engineering Technology Corporation (a ZOLTEK company) is a global leader in filament winding machinery and software. Our expertise led to the creation of FiberGrafiX™, a top-tier software for generating and optimizing winding patterns. Launched 20 years ago, FiberGrafiX was the first of its kind and remains the industry leader, used on more machines worldwide than any other similar application. Patterns created by FiberGrafiX can be exported to any filament winding machine’s computer control system.
